Dutch Apple Cake

This cake is naturally low in fat, and contains lots of real fruit, with apple flavour and cinnamon to give it a unique taste and a lovely moist texture. This cake is great on it’s own but it’s also scrummy with a dollop of clotted cream or some custard. We have also found on our travels to the West Country that this cake goes particularly well with a glass of traditional cider!

As the cake has a very low fat and moisture content it freezes really well. Whilst this cake is wheat free it is not gluten-free as it is made with rye flour which, whilst very low in gluten when compared to normal wheat flour, is above the levels permitted by the Coeliacs society. As an additional point the fact that these cakes are made without eggs make them perfectly acceptable for those following a Vegan diet.
